fall favorites

our favorite time of year is here and if you haven't experienced them yourself, trust me when I say essential oils take fall to the next level. I thought it would be fun to share all our fall favorites with you and why it matters so much that you reach for oils instead of candles this season to make your home festive + cozy.


first off, let's talk about candles. I am one of those former candle addicts - you know, the kind who would stock up on leaves 3-wicks from bath & body works every time there was a sale?! I just loved the smell and I'd burn them all day every day. the problem? I had no idea I was putting my body & my family at such risk. no one had ever told or taught me why candles weren't safe so I didn't know any better. one of the things I'm most passionate about since starting my young living journey is the power that comes from learning more every day and choosing better. choosing better for myself, for my daughters, for my husband and our home. 

to keep things simple, here are a few reasons why candles can be so toxic: 

1 / the wax. most candles are made from paraffin, a petroleum byproduct. to create paraffin, petroleum waste is chemically bleached, deodorized and made in to wax. when burned, volatile organic compounds (VOCs) are released into the air -- including acetone, benzene and toluene (known carcinogens).

2 / the fragrance. did you know companies can use the word fragrance or parfum to hide up to 5,000 chemicals (without having to disclose or test a single one)? more than 2/3 of products with the word fragrance also contain hormone disruptors. I think we can agree as moms, with little ones running through our home, the last thing we'd want is for them to constantly be breathing in dangerous chemicals and artificial fragrances that can damage their developing brains & growing bodies.

so, what's the solution? we all want our homes to smell amazing and like you, I crave the coziness that certain scents create in a space, especially during the fall season. instead of lighting a candle, grab a few young living essential oils + a diffuser and not only will your home smell incredible, but your mind + body will benefit. as you (and your family) breathe in the oils you're diffusing, they will support your immune system, mood + emotions, energy level, focus + concentration and even your sleep. 

here are a few of our favorite fall oils:

thieves // the powerhouse blend of clove + lemon + rosemary + cinnamon bark + eucalptyus. we diffuse this all day, every day during fall & winter for the best immune support ever. it smells like the holidays and keeps our bodies strong and healthy.

orange // the citrus oil I go through the quickest during the fall months, I love pairing orange in the diffuser with more bold oils like clove, cinnamon bark and nutmeg. orange is just a happy oil and the instant I smell it, my mood is lifted.

pine // tree oils are forever my favorite and pine is no exception. I most often diffuse it in our bathrooms because it creates such a fresh, cozy space and a scent that carries throughout the home. 

northern lights black spruce // another tree oil that I reach for often during fall, especially at bedtime. I love adding 4 drops to my bedside diffuser with a drop or two of orange, tangerine or lavender for the dreamiest deep sleep. bonus if the windows are open and a cool breeze is blowing in.

cardamom // such a fun oil to have on hand during the fall, I love blending it with clove and nutmeg for a spiced chai diffuser blend or using cardamom vitality to make my own chai tea. 

clove // one of the oils that makes up young living's thieves blend, clove just says cozy to me. with analgesic, antibacterial and antiseptic properties, every time I put it in the diffuser I love knowing I am supporting my immune system, especially as temps drop and my girls are constantly surrounded by other kids. I love pairing it with both citrus oils and tree oils or diffusing it by itself.

cinnamon bark // the oil that has made its way on to my essential rewards order month after month, my go-to fall blend is 5 drops cinnamon bark + 5 drops orange + 2 drops cardamom. smells like cinnamon rolls and transforms any space in to that of yummy fall perfection. 


other favorites we keep on hand for back to school season as our go-to immune system support: 

oregano // potent antibacterial + antiviral and ideal in a wellness or immunity roller

lemongrass // a great air purifier when diffused and another key oil in our immune boost roller with antiseptic, antiviral and antibacterial properties

tea tree // one of my favorite oils ever (it smells amazing, especially paired with grapefruit!) that we use on our skin, in the diffuser and in liquid hand soap paired with lavender. I also use it in my fav makeup brush cleaner and apply it directly to cuts or wounds to both cleanse + speed up healing.
